Synopsis

Estranged from her parents, 15-year-old Gina Laramee longs to understand her family roots and to have a normal, loving relationship with her mentally unstable Aunt Elaine, since Elaine is the closest thing to a mother Gina has?and is, in fact, closer than Gina realizes.

It happened, in that small room under the peaked roof. Tears stream down my cheeks as I step slowly toward the house, until the flood-lights flick on. They startle me, and I duck into the shadows. The upstairs window is dark when I look up again, and I suddenly lose my nerve….
