How long will the evaluation take? When can I expect to hear back from you?
How long my process takes will depend on the length of the manuscript and the fluency of the writing. The cleaner the submission, the quicker the process. Thus, it’s important to send the strongest submission possible.
I will read your work, at least twice. The first read-through is to get a sense of the story. The second or third read-through is to make note of the areas in your manuscript where the writing is strong and where it is weak. I will write my observations in the page margins and in between the lines—followed by a comprehensive, typed-written evaluation, which you will receive via email, before our meeting. Please have a look at my formatting guidelines under Term and Conditions.
That being said, figure on two weeks for shorter submissions (up to 50K words)—from the time I receive your work to the time we are scheduled to meet.
Four weeks, give or take, for longer submissions (up to 100K words)—from the time I receive your work to the time we are scheduled to meet.
In the interim, we will have arranged a time and date to meet either by phone or by Skype, where together we will discuss your manuscript in depth, and address any question you might have concerning my feedback.
We will then end our meeting with a plan for what the next step might be. From there, you can decide if you are feeling confident enough, after our meeting, to go forward on your own. You will be honored a complementary email followup, where I can answer any questions you may still have, after the fact, about a comment I made in my written critiques, but that may not have been discussed during our meeting.
Or, you may decide to arrange another meeting, or meetings, for one or more revisions—until you are ready to work on your own. These include complementary follow up emails where I will answer questions you might have, after the fact, about a comment I made in my written critiques, but that may not have been discussed during our meeting. To learn more about my fees, please read the guidelines under Terms and Conditions.
